Why Being a Good Egg Isn’t Enough!

Why Good Eggs Don’t Always Make Moneygood egg 2011

This isn’t like me – as I’m usually a pretty laid back sort – but a debate I heard in my Mastermind group last week got me all indignant.  In fact, when I think about it, I get quite angry!  I get angry at the apparent injustice where ‘nice guys’ don’t make money!

You see, some of my fellow masterminders were saying that they wanted to develop a reputation for being a good egg because then surely the money would follow.  And I got angry.  Angry because lovely people that I cared about were going to make the same mistakes that I had – and could potentially suffer big time.

The thing is – not so long ago – I was always being told that I was fantastic at what I did – but I couldn’t get anyone to buy my services.

Have you ever had that?

Stinks doesn’t it?!

So – there are loads of people out there making more money than you – and I’m betting you’re every bit as good as, if not better than they are.  Do you know people like that – who are not as good as you, but are raking it in.

I want you to think about it for a moment – and really feel the injustice of it.  And I want you to get angry about it because I want to move you to do something about it.

Let me tell you – being good at what you do – and being a ‘good egg’ are not enough.  Let me repeat that….   Being good at what you do and being a good egg are not enough.  That won’t get you clients and it won’t make you wealthy.  What it will do is get you taken advantage of, walked over, exhausted, angry, bitter and broke.  And I know because I was the expert at it.

Now – I’m not for a minute saying that you have to stop being a good egg – you don’t!  But you have to do more…..

I’m going to share my experience here (briefly) and I KNOW that sadly some of my experiences will be familiar to you – but I’m also going to tell you how I changed things for myself and how you can change things too.

You can get the full, no holds barred story on my webinar on Tuesday 4th March.  Link to webinar

The short version is that I became really, really good at what I did – I got all the qualifications, went on all the courses (paying a not so small fortune) and got loads of practice by giving free workshops, taster sessions, and coaching sessions.

The thing is, I was a coach, a helper – on a mission to make people happy – I didn’t do sales!  (Partly because of my past painful experience working in the insurance sales industry!)

How many of you feel that way about sales?  You’re a coach, consultant or trainer – you don’t do sales either right?

WRONG!  If you don’t do sales, you won’t have anyone to coach or train.

Eventually that truth hit home and fortunately by then I was a self-development junkie so I spent another small fortune learning how to self-promote.  Not in a way that’s hard core and disgusting – but in a way that outlines what I can do that helps people.  I learned to promote my services in a way that I could hold onto my values of honesty and authenticity.

By applying what I learned, the first webinar I ran using my new knowledge, I made over $16,000 (£10,500) in sales – without turning into a demon!  I know you’ve probably heard me say this before but I can’t tell you how good it felt and the difference this made to me.  For the first time in 10 years, I had a regular monthly income.  This year, in the first two months I’ve earned more than I used to in a whole year before I made the changes.  And that’s more about how little I was earning before!!!

The difference? I don’t sell products or programmes.  I get paid to take people’s problems away.  I get paid to help fellow coaches, trainers and consultants, people like you to help others.  I get paid to help people like you attract clients so you in turn get paid to take away their problems.

My message is simple and I want to shout it from the rooftops.

If you’re good at what you do – and you’re not getting the clients, if you’re not getting paid what you’re worth – then please do something about it.  Don’t sit there and let others coin it in when you’re better than them.  Get angry – because it’s not fair!  Use that anger to get motivated to stop being ‘just’ a good egg who gets taken advantage of.  Get motivated to get your story and your message out there.  Get motivated to get your gifts out into the world and start getting paid what you’re worth.

And I believe the best way of getting your message out there is to start telling people about what you do – start self-promoting.

When you speak at events, learn how to sell from your talk.  When you run webinars, learn how to start making money from them (and if you’re not running webinars then you flipping well should be)!

You don’t have to be a nasty piece of work to begin earning what you’re worth.  You CAN BE A GOOD EGG!  You CAN be honest, and genuine and authentic – you just have to learn to self-promote as well!  If you’re good at what you do, stop hiding in your cage – start speaking, start doing webinars and start claiming your spotlight.

If you don’t know exactly how to do that, that’s where I can help.

Join me on my webinar on Tuesday 4th March to hear the full story – why you need to be more than just a ‘good egg’ and what you need to start doing.
