Sharing Your Ideas, Products and Services – Without Showing Off

You’ve got a great new idea, or you’ve just put together a great new programme and you’re all excited about it. Now what? Now you have to share it! And I mean share it – share it properly, shout about it, not just whisper about it.

There are so many people who have great ideas, products and services but they get overlooked because these wonderful pieces of wisdom are not put into the spotlight.

Don’t ‘hide your light under a bushel’, you’re actually doing people a dis-service when you have the solution to a problem that’s really giving them a hard time, yet you keep quiet about it.

The trouble is, for so many years, we’ve been told that ‘shouting about what you do’ or ‘blowing your own trumpet’ is showing off, arrogant and it’s not something that ‘nice people’ do! Yet you do have to shout about what you do – or else nobody will notice!

For example – let’s say you’re a health coach. You could announce that you have an amazing new programme that’s the best on the planet. You’ve been working in the health industry for over 25 years and have credentials coming out of your ears and have got results for thousands of people. Now – there’s no doubt that this kind of approach grabs attention and works but what if you’re uncomfortable about announcing you’re the best thing on the planet? What if that feels a bit too much like ‘showing off’? What if you’re starting out and don’t have a track record yet?

So what’s the answer? How do you shout about your business without looking like a show-off?

You make it all about your audience.

Instead of talking about your programme, talk about your audience and their challenges.

So, using the example of the health coach, they would start by talking about a specific problem that their clients face and how frustrating it is for those clients when they don’t see the results they’re looking for. Shout about that problem – get mad about it and get people agreeing that it’s a real pain in the proverbial. Then, having built that connection, the health coach announces their super-duper new programme that addresses that very problem. This has a very different feel to it and is nothing at all like ‘showing off’.

So – if you have the answer to your client’s problems, don’t be shy – be loud and proud and let them know!
